rowanberries: (Bang bang no more problem!)

Oh, and is there a lot this week. Safe to say I wasn't impressed

Crap, missed the beginning.

Aww, ghostbloke. He could get annoying, but for now he's cute. Mind you, they tried this with Doctor Who last season and it wasn't too great... aww. Alien eye. Ew? Or aww? Not sure.

Hee! I love this song! Staaaaarmaaaaan waiting in the sky! Oh, for fuck's sake, it's all about Gwen again, isn't it?

Yeah, okay, I'm irritated. How long has she been a team member? And the others? Pfft, but no, couldn't have them do anybloodything.

But. That phoning thing... if Gwen has psychic powers I'll actually like it, because I desperately want a link between her and Gwyneth. Something that gives her character a point beyond 'The "human" one.'

But soldiering on... Argh, this is hard to engage with. Hi, Jack! Have I seen you at all apart from this? Eugene's cute, but all I can think of is the other viewing-from-outside episode. That failed.

Yeah, I'll need to rewatch this, I cannot engage, it's striking me as dull. Dull, dull, dull. Let's see what Jack, Tosh, Owen and Ianto are working on! Come on!

*snicker* What's up with women on this show chugging their drinks?

Ooo! Oooo! She spoke to him! Yes, RTD, redeem yourself!

Man, this episode is dull. WE WANT TORCHWOOD! Screw some dead guy with issues trailing around with Gwen! If there's a point, fine. Make there be a point.

WAUGH kitty suddenly. She's always bouncy in the evening, and sometimes literally.

Hmm. Random shoes... Is there a point to him doing that?

Oh, dear. Gwen does break trails of hearts, doesn't she?

Bastards. Ooo! ...Swallowed it. Cool.

So, a predictably sappy yet life-affirming revelation. I'm sorry if I sound cynical, but frankly that wasn't great... and this is Torchwood. Not City of Angels. (Which admittedly I haven't seen, but it sounds the sort of thing where this storyline would fit.)

Ew. Floating into the sky, saves Gwen, blah, blah, standard cliche, blah. Wasn't this show supposed to be original and exciting? Yes? No? *sigh* Disappointed.

Man. Next week looks interesting. Or has the potential to be, at least in comparison to that.

*Pats consolingly*

See, the problem is, I actually really like her in theory. It's just the stupid way she is used as a plot device/central character by the writers that makes her grate. Because she's not stupid. She's clever, and yeah, she's sympathetic, but not to the exclusion of all sense.

But they need something to happen... Gwen's compassionate! Which is RTD-speak for 'Shit, we need this to happen...'

I don't know. When she's not shoved in the audience's face as 'Main Character Whose Eyes You See Through' she's likeable - she's funny, she's cute, she's pretty, Owen/Gwen is hot. But... God, they need to stop using her to the exclusion of everyone else.

...You get me?

Yes, I got you. She's definitely someone I like when the episode isn't all about her as well. She's funny, cute, pretty, compassionate, the 'humanity' of Torchwood...and she's losing that.

They need to show a little more focus on the fact that she's not the same person anymore...she's definitely a bit darker, a bit more Torchwood-y. But they need to stop using her as a plot device, yeah. Just 'cause someone dies, doesn't mean she's the first one to care.

The point of bringing her in, having her be the "humanity" was to force it onto the others. Have them show a little humanity now and again. And yeah, they do it every once in a while (Owen and Lizzie...Tosh and the alienchick) but still they act like Gwen is the one they HAVE TO SHOW THIS THROUGH. Nooo. Have someone else help!

I want to see the darker side of Gwen Cooper. I want her to be driven mad by Torchwood...I know that seems horrible...but I want to see the pain she's supposedly going through in "not being able to tell anyone."

Though from a few spoiler photos that surfaced...I think something happens. :/

I missed the spoilerphotos. D:

But man. Having her be a bit dark would just be awesome. Dark characters rock! Complexity is cool, and interesting... which 'plot devicily naive and selfrighteous' is not. Because I do get their reasoning. But the point is, I shouldn't. It should not be so obvious that that's what they're doing with her. It's insulting to viewers' intelligence (and hello, this is the adult show, we are grownups) and detracts from what we should be doing, which is enjoying and speculating on the events. It's jarring, and so I see it as a show, not something real, which I felt with Doctor Who. And with a show, I can pick apart the flaws in the writing and directing, instead of accepting them as logical IC mistakes. We need something real. Some development and darkness that isn't just the general moping we seem to have going.

Oh, and RTD, by 'dark'? I do not mean whiny and angsty. I saw you think, now stop it. Been done. You give reasons.

And hows about some goddamn continuity while we're at it.

I have two saved if you want to see.

Yes yes and yes. RTD: Dark in the sense of Torchwood is eating her social life and her brain and she can't see the good in people anymore, can't see the good in the world. Remember the feeling at the end of Countrycide? That was a good glimpse of the dark I want.

He's made some mistakes in the way he started the show...yeah, it's only a show to me, it's only felt real a handful of times.

I want more dark moments, like Countrycide...like They Keep Killing Suzie. Horrible things that you can understand. The cannibals wanted to be happy...Suzie just wanted to live. Stuff that you are like "oh my god" over.

Bleargh RTD. Bleargh! Even if you lose at showing character development for Gwen, I'll do some damn character soul searching FOR her.

OMG plz? amy [at] crackbar.com?

Yes. I actually would like to see Gwen almost (or even completely!) become Suzie - that disgust with everything they have to deal with, over and over. Suzie said it: You replaced me. Wouldn't it be nicely ironical if Gwen replaced her that fully... saved, hopefully, in time, because what's the point if you never learn from your mistakes? I think Jack is, and hopefully Gwen herself will be able to see. But it would be a good theme for a season ending. And with Gwen's (hopefulhopeful, Oh please God) link to the rift via Gwyneth... interesting! In an apocalyptic-sounding way!

Even if you lose at showing character development for Gwen, I'll do some damn character soul searching FOR her.

This is what RP is for.

I'll work on Jack, you work on Gwen - together, we shall make it as awesome as it should have been!

I like Gwen!! I'm playing her elsewhere. Not in any games where I have a Rose because I still say they're fairly interchangable for plot points, but I like Gwen.

And also? My Gwen is Gwyneth. If that ends up being Jossed by canon, so be it, but I'm playing her in tiny, tiny games, so it's not likely to matter.

Dude, I loved it. :D

And, no, no it was not supposed to be original and exciting. It was written by Russell T Davies, foolish child. Where on earth are you getting the 'original' from? *grins*
