Sssssooooo, went to see Vantage Point. It was originally meant to be The Other Boleyn Girl, but one of our memebers was late, and the other couldn't make it, so we switched. Bearing in mind I went in with two margaritas down me... Load of old bollocks.
Seriously.
And it started out so promisingly! The premise was good - multiple viewpoints slowly unfolding the mystery behind a presidential assassination. Exciting! Right? Wrong. Why?
One agent turns out to be evil? Check.
Small cute child put in danger for maximum 'suspense,' apart from the fact that there was no way she was actually going to get hurt? Check.
The president doesn't actually die? Check.
Agent Dennis Quaid so indestructible he basically is Jack Bauer? Check.
The people behind the assassination turn out to be cardboard cut-out foreigners? Check.
Misdirection all due to entirely ludicrous technology for a tiny, desperate band of terrorists? Check.
No actual motivation beyond 'foreigners = terrorists' given? You'd better fucking believe it.
I just. Why? It could have been so good. POV exploration of motive! Opportunity! Twists and turns! Lack of blatant bigotry! But noooo. Can't have that. Screw you, Hollywood.

Date: 2008-03-28 12:05 am (UTC)Well, if it's any consolation, The Other Boleyn Girl doesn't sound that great either. Just reading the synopsis makes me go 'BUT - NO NO WRONG NO NOT TRUE NO!' >.
