TORCHWOOD: S2 E1

Sooooo.
Seen it.
...
:D
I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH I ENJOYED THAT.
Okay, the John/Jack meetup was overdone and too blatantly trying to be sexy. But the rest? 'Bloody Torchwood' INDEED, random little old lady! That was perfect, right down to Jack stepping in to do the killing, as we know he's able to do. I just. Bweeheehee.
I have a not-so-secret love for Jack/Ianto anyway, and so my reactions to most of the rest was predictable, right down to helpless cackling over angry!Ianto staring down an armed man and taking out his RAGE on the lift doors. HEE.
I liked Owen. I liked him. That's some sterling work right there. There were points when I liked Gwen! I remain violently opposed to Jack/Gwen, however, and will be displeased if the NEWLY ENGAGED Ms. Cooper gets off with yet another coworker. She needs to be less selfrighteous about that whole thing, really. Marrying Rhys because no-one else will have you? Ummmm... Thought that one through at all?
But I disgress. John Hart was a good villain, laying aside how very, very much he is just RTD wanting to direct Spike. (Right down to the accent. One day James Marsters should really be allowed to act with his own voice.) Oh, and just to mix up the Whedon-stealing, there's the drugged lipgloss trick from Firefly, too. Yes dear, very original. *eyeroll* But I still enjoyed it as a plot point, you know? Especially as it was so hilariously obvious what was going to happen, and carried on the fine tradition of everything that Jack warns against happening.
Oh my, and the rest of the season? Looks freaking AWESOME. Thank God.
Reactions, please! Talk to me!

I thought it was fun but ultimately overproduced crap. But at least it knows it's crap, which makes a change. Lots of nods to fandom throughout, which is nice in a way.

I don't see where she gets off having that attitude, either. "YOU RAN OFF TO CHASE THE MAN YOU WERE IN LOVE WITH AND DIDN'T STICK AROUND FOR ME EVEN THOUGH I WAS NEVER GONNA LEAVE MY BOYFRIEND FOR YOU AND I WAS TOTALLY DOING OWEN ON THE SIDE."
how very, very much he is just RTD wanting to direct Spike.
BLEURGH.
I'm so glad they've stopped taking themselves so seriously. Except Gwen, who is, like, Grand High Poobah Of Taking Yourself Seriously. I really hope Martha knocks it out of her.

Date: 2008-01-18 01:36 am (UTC)I do, however, have objections to Jack clearly being genuinely interested in Ianto, and then having these random scenes with Gwen where MY UST IS PASTEDE ON YEY. Okay, yes, 51st century, "You people and your little categories," whatever, but Jack doesn't seem like the type to be genuinely polyamorous.
Or maybe it's just me. But. Do not like. >:(
Gwen's issues with Rhys are another whole rant.
Also, may I say that I actually liked Owen in this ep. :O He was competent! AND AND AND "If you touch her again, I'll kill you" MADE ME SO GLEEFUL AND SHIPPY.

Date: 2008-01-18 01:42 pm (UTC)I think that's true, or close to it - what I think the whole 'gooutwithmeplz' scene was, was Jack trying to indicate to Ianto that he'd try said categories for him. Which- um, eee, first of all. And secondly, means NO GWEN KISSY KTHNX.
I knowww. Owen/Tosh are really cute when he's not being a complete dick!
