Christmas wish list meme!
Because I want to.
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
My list
1. If you can, give blood. This was on the original list, I believe, and I heartily concur. It's easy, it takes less than an hour if you get an appointment, it really doesn't hurt much, and also, free cookies. Most important.
2. Stories. Tell me a story! I love them, and you can never have too many. If you are Milliways-familiar, a 'Ways-continuity ficlet would be love. My pups are all mention hors.
3. Link me to something funny. I love funny things, I truly do. Make me laugh out loud, and you have won. Yes.
4. Music. YSI links are love, and by all means, put them where they can be downloaded by lots of people.
5. A copy of photoshop for the laptop. I might be able to get a copy at home, but then again, I might not. I miss being able to icon at odd times at night.
6. A timezone-less area so I can talk to people more easily. *defensive* I can wish!
7. Books, omg. Love books. Amazon.co.uk is my new best friend. But books. Recommend me ones! Order me towards some. Anything!
8. A kettle and a toaster for my room. *Eyes parents speculatively*
9. Hmm... Running out of things. Oooh. Feedback. If you've ever read anything of mine, be it a thread, or a plot, or even the god-awful Harry Potter fanfic from years back, I'd love to hear what someone thought and why. It's always interesting, and nice to hear it's been read.Except maybe the god-awful Harry Potter fanfic from years back.
10. I would like to be in a play. Doesn't have to be a big part or anything, I just like the experience. Maybe next term.

Weird coincidence (Christmas Wish List Meme)
Date: 2005-10-15 08:48 pm (UTC)I was checking out lists of people who'd put links to their wishlists on Trollprincess's livejournal (where I first discovered this meme), and came across your's and I read:
7. To go and see Serenity with someone who actually knows what the hell I'm squealing about
And I think "hmm, I was just thinking today I'd go and see Serenity this next week or so. What the hell, let's see if this person is actually anywhere near where I live in Godalming, Surrey, UK. I bet they're on the other side of the world somewhe... Bloody Hell."
So, if you'd like someone to see it with, I'm very squeal-tolerant, and I think I'm likely to need someone wax lyrical at/sit in stunned silence with after seeing it.
You can drop me a line at aboulic@mail.com if you're interested.
PS, nice to see someone else who reads scarygoround.
Re: Weird coincidence (Christmas Wish List Meme)
Date: 2005-10-16 10:06 am (UTC)The really annoying thing is that I'm not there during term-time anymore. *facepalms* But thanks for the thought anyway! *hugs*
P.S. Scary Go Round is love. I actually RP Shelley Winters, I like it so much.

Date: 2005-10-20 09:30 am (UTC)Or if you feel in the mood for cinema if you're back for Christmas, drop me a line, I'll probably be around if there's something worthwhile showing.
Of course what we really need is a Scary Go Round film. I wonder if the rights have been sold? I'm suddenly having the urge to use the independent filmmakers training I did in the late nineties. (must.. resist... urge... to... write... script...)
