I hate writing about misogyny when I'm tired. I have to stop myself going sarcastic, which doesn't really come across right in an academic paper.
'...Because women were clearly uncontrollably lustful beings, they were more prone to temptation from the Devil to both sign pacts in blood and have sex with him, despite the slightly contradictory assumption circulated at the time that he was cold and unsatisfying in the extreme.'
I didn't write that.
But really. This is why I have to bite my tongue when my tutor says things jollily like: 'Oh, but their arguments really carried a lot of logic for the time, of course!'
Maybe after he marks my essays I'll go and have a long and slightly less polite argument with him than I usually do in seminars.
No. No, they did not, not necessarily. There's a reason they call it the witch-craze.
