...And all I can think is 'Hugh Laurie with an American accent = WRONG.'

Hey, USians? Does that accent sound realistic to you guys? I can't judge, due to overwhelming OMG HUGH WHAT.

In other news, I did my film research today! Woman in a Dressing-Gown, or, why being a slatternly housewife stops your husband loving you and makes him have affairs thus endangering the sanctity of marriage :O!

I love the 1950s.

Also, did some work on OOM-stuff. Yay productivity!

The accent is phenomenal. I actually didn't know he was British until after the first season of the show had aired, when I saw him on Inside the Actor's Studio.

Yes, this means I had never heard of him before 'House.' No, I still haven't seen anything else he's done. Yes, I know I'm deprived.

...You poor lady. :(!

Hugh Laurie is amazing. Please tell me you've seen Blackadder?

But do you love me anyway?

I do.

I just woe for your education.

Which is totally a verb.

Ditto. >.>

Although I have now tracked down some episodes of "A Bit of Fry & Laurie" on YouTube and am filled with hilarity at how much Laurie sounds like Eric Idle, to my American tin ear.

I've only heard him slip up once, and that was when he pronounced Nam with an 'a' like in 'barn.' (Vietnam can have this 'barn' A, but 'Nam' is only ever ... Nam! Like, er, in 'flan.')

*Grins* He's just too posh for short as, apparently. Oh, Hugh. <3

Honestly, I think it's just that it's such a specific usage; his flat As are all in place the rest of the time :D

It's a good accent, yeah. Just jarring when you know that he is British.

(See also Paul Blackthorne, to a lesser degree. PB is far more in the 'The gravely-er your voice is, the more you can get away with' camp.

*Nods* I'm slowly getting used to it, and if you don't think too hard, it's great. *Pats him* Good show, Lieutenant George!

It took me a while to get over the ZOMG WHAT factor of Hugh Laurie with an American accent, but it really is rather flawless. Usually I can spot fake American accents a mile off, either due to slip ups or gross exaggerations, but damn...

*Nods* I mean, some of the worst fake accents I've ever heard have been professional British actors trying to sound American, so it's really pretty impressive. But... just... George!

The only thing more peculiar would be Stephen Fry.

As everyone else has said, um, yep, his accent had me floored, especially since I know Princeton, NJ pretty well and I couldn't really tell him from someone who actually lived there.

I feel absurdly proud of him. *Grins* It's awesome when comedy actors turn around and suddenly turn out to be brilliant as serious stuff too.

Hugh Laurie's accent is freaking amazing. You cannot tell he's British at all. And I didn't realise he was until I remembered, cleverly, that he is in Sense and Sensibility. :P

I'm a huge Blackadder fan, so I watch the show in awe. He's incredibly good. And then I watch him as Prince George and I laugh and laugh and laugh.

I made the same ZOMGface the first time I saw House - I was utterly used to seeing him in Blackadder and other comedy things, and then! What!
