Here is an oops-I-haven't-updated-in-a-while entry!

I had my sister over for the weekend, which is why I wasn't around much: Mainly, I spent the time introducing her to series two Heroes and Avatar in general, which predictably, she loved. Ummm.

Today! My Science and History tutor set up a quiz for us - basically a reference-hunt. Here, have a look! Why were these three titles chosen for weekly topic headers? 1789 and All That, Imperial Nature (about C19th botanists and classification) and The Ringing Grooves of Change (about Victorian period industrial advances.) I won. :D! Man, I haven't felt so geeky in a long time. It feels gooood. And then we all got chocolate. :D I ♥ Professor Endersby.

Then there was choir, which, my god. I love it so much. I've missed singing so much in the two years I've been at Uni without it. We're doing A Ceremony of Carols for a concert at the end of term, which is really lovely, and unusual, too. We've got a few more pieces, as well, including a very pretty arrangement of Away in a Manger. *sighs happily* Anyone who thinks female soprano voices are squeaky and unattractive should be made to come and listen to some of these pieces. I have a minor girlcrush on one of our soloist's voices, it's that lovely. And one piece is so fantastic I keep wanting to learn how to vid just to try and make an Aang-centric one with it. >_> never mind that it's about, you know, Jesus, not the Avatar. It's close enough! Mind you, I do wish they'd run through one or two of the chorus parts a little more. Some of us can't read music so well, conductor-man!

Soprano's voices are icky, squeaky, and unattractive when it is mostly-shitty high school supranos who haven't paid attention in class or tried at all to get better and can't sing worth SHIT.

Sopranos don't start to get pretty usually until college anyway, when their voices start to fill out and not sound so...... blecky.

Personally, I like the other ranges just because there are way too freaking many sopranos, and sopranos get all the attention of the females. No one loves altos or contraltos when it comes to solos, or musical theatre, or singable songs. *sadface* NO ONE LOVES ME AND WANTS ME TO BE ABLE TO SING. I nevar gets to have a part in a musical, cause I'm not a %@#(UU^(&@)$^&_()$%^*^*(%($ing soprano, and not a guy.

*Shudders* Oh, definitely. We were fairly lucky at my senior school (English high school) in that we were granted Music Specialist Status while I was there which drastically increased the resources and time we had to train choirs - the auditioned ones tended to be pretty good. It's a pity that altos don't get so much, because the lower ranges are just gorgeous - one of the reasons I'm so gleeful about our Christmas pieces this year is that they have a good distribution between the parts, and as a group we're good enough to blend them so you can actually hear them all.

I have to sing soprano, pretty much because I can't get low enough to do alto convincingly, or even second sop. in places. >_> I am the squeaky. But college... oh yeah. It feels so good to be in a group with competent, confident singers who sound fantastic afater only a couple of run throughs, and to suddenly realise that you're capable of that, too. *beams* It's fun.

...yeaaaaaaaaah..... my high school choir sucked. Because we only had enough resources for one choir class. Cause our choir teacher was also the band teacher. For the HS AND the middle school. (I hate my school district.) So anyone who wanted to get in could get in. And they never left. Cause it was the "easy" class.

Ugh. *shudder* hate hate.

I <3 being a contralto, cause IMHO, low and sultry and rich > high.

Uh, yeah. College choir? Is like the most rockinest thing of all rock. Cause most college choir kids are music students. Or students who love music. Either way, they're gonna be competent, confident, and know what they're doing.

You make me all sad and nostalgic for the days when I was in a choir. I'm pretty sure that years without practice have made me no longer a first tenor, which is too bad because first tenors get all the best parts.

I wanna sing again!

Come to England and join my... er, Uni choir! We have approximately four tenors. *facepalm*

That seems like a very reasonable solution. I guess I'll just drop out of school three weeks before finals, quit my job, and hop a plane. :)
