So, that Torchwood thing

I appear to have missed the past two weeks, though I'll remedy the second right now. I don't know why - I wasn't even ill for the first. That one: I liked it. It was well characterised, sad, and generally worked, even though the explanation was basically:
Writer: "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if...?"
But it was, kinda, so we'll let that one slide and move onto this week's, Combat.
Ack, I knew I should have started this at the beginning. I didn't, I'm approaching the climax, but this has to be said:
Owen? Even when proving your macho-ness, never ever throw away the gun. Because now the guy your supposed to be keeping on top of has it, doesn't he? And now he's going to put you innabox cage with a Weevil, isn't he? Yes?
Yes. Oh dear.
The rest, much more generally: I'm liking this. It's a good look into violent culture, though I'm still not buying the higher feeling to it. You kidnap and go into a cage with a predator? You're a moron. At the end I can almost hear Jack thinking 'I'm surrounded by bloody idiots.' YES, he knows best, Owen, if your idea of 'best' is the previously stated! Arse.
Also, I like the way Gwen was handled as a character this week (and last, actually.) She'll never be my favourite, but there can be a sense to the writing that makes her work so much better. That said, she completely deserved Rhys' non-forgivance, and I thought it was a nice twist that they didn't give it. Because though Owen is indeed a bit of a wanker - so is she. By this point she blatantly doesn't even think about his feelings, and although she can't tell him about Torchwood, she hasn't exactly fought for that. That's not even considering the whole 'shagging Owen' aspect. And the amnesia pill? Not good, our Gwen. Looks like a little tarnish growing on that compassionate shininess of yours. I like it. Keep it up!
Well, well, well. Next week looks interesting. Oh, and I kind of loved the Runaway Bride. What they haven't quite got right in Torchwood yet really does make Doctor Who a joy to watch.
