First of all: If there is someone on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

Because why else would I keep you all around?

Second - people who give blood? All of you rule a lot. I do whenever I can, even though I have what I believe is the commonest blood type possible. I've been going on for a while now about my friend who was in a traffic accident (she's getting better all the time - still in the ITC, but I talked to her and she talked back and she's still herself and okay) and I found out a while ago how she survived. See, she has a rare blood type even in England, and she was in Africa at the time. Practically nobody has that type in Ghana. It's a race thing. It's just... not there. So when she needed blood? All the volunteers from other countries - Spain, Greece, England, France, all over the place went around finding out who among them had a matching type, and if they did, they donated. Not a little bit at a time, like most donors do, they kept doing it until she was back at a safe level and could be flown back over.

That is just... Such an amazing thing, because without it, we now know she would be dead. But she's not, and she's going to be okay.

And the weather today is great.

XD

I always said I'd never give blood, because I was scared and wimpy. Then I kept getting blood taken by the Doctor and sort of got used to the pain.

So I decided I should go and give blood...except I'm not allowed. So I hope everyone else knows that you get used to it and it barely even hurts then. YOU SHOULD ALL DO IT!

I volunteered for the Red Cross blood drives when I was at uni because I couldn't donate myself. I'll never forget the one day I was chatting with a man who was having pretzels and juice after his donation, and I found out that he was a rare blood-type donor who came every 90 days, like clockwork, and had been doing so for years. There are some amazing people in this world, truly.

I should go donate again. I just started, and I'm O-, which I don't think is in high demand, but is popular nonetheless. The whole thing, from what I experienced, was actually comfortable and almost enjoyable. It gives you a great excuse for getting out of any physical labor for the next few days -- "I can't, I'm down a pint."

Also, the local blood bank gives out free coffee drink cards for the local roaster. :D

I'm really glad she's going to be OK. :)

And go you, 'cause you have motivated me to give blood. :D My local GP surgery is closed weekends and evenings, but there's a hospital 2 tube stations away so there's no excuse. Also I need to get a new donor card.

Awesome! When I am old enough I shall give blood, as I have told you many times before.
