Non-spoilery reaction: I liked it.
WTF ALIENS?
But... It felt right. You know how the Star Wars prequels never felt like Star Wars? This hit the right note. Shia LeBouef, or whatever his name is could have been annoying, but... it saved itself. What could have ruined it was the bit right at the end where he went to put Indy's hat on... but Indy intercepted, all thank you very much, that's mine, and that's ME, and it was okay! Indy may be old, but Jr. Jr. ain't replacing him any time soon.Or ever. No schooling? Pfft, you can't be an asskicking archaelogist without a damn good academic background. Kid's a perpetual sidekick.
I was surprisingly in sympathy with Cate Blanchett's character. She just wanted the knowledge! And she had an AWESOME haircut! Anna swored! Still, I like to think she was vaporised happy.
And speaking of vaporised... WTF NUCLEAR BLAST?! For the sake of my sanity, I choose to believe that drinking from the Holy Grail gave Indiana extra resistence to physical trauma and massive doses of radiation. Yes.
Oh, and... It would have been nice if the betrayal wasn't so flamingly obvious, you know? Or so flamingly ineffectual. There was never any danger from generic American turncoat no. 353.
But what did I like? I loved loved loved the references to Henry Jones Sr. and Marcus Brody. <3 Right down to Indy's refusal to laugh when Brody's statue kicked some ass in his stead. I just. Ow. But it's right.
I loved the cafe scene, using the teenage gang war to escape.
And I loved the Ark of the Covenant cameo. Heee! Perfect.
In conclusion: It had its issues, but the spirit was kept true, and that's what counts. You should see it.
